Asia is a continent comprising 62 landforms. Separated from Europe by the Mediterranean Sea and from much of Africa by the Red Sea, Asia is confronted to Africa at its northwest side. The overall estimation for the elevation is 600 m above sea level. Besides the elevation Asia can be divided by its geographic zones; The coastal Plains and The Atlas Range. The coastal Plains are known for being swampy and the The Atlas Range is known as the dry desert area. Depending on what area you are in the temperatures can vary. If caught in the lower plains you will experience great heat. In the Sahara, the temperature occasionally will go down to freezing point. Farther towars the north and south the temperature is warm. In temperatures like these one could wear shorts or pants and a short sleeved shirt. As an accesory one could wear a hat to protect the skin from the sun. Qin Dynasty
By nicole kerrigan
The Qin dynasty, lasting from 221 BC to 207 BC, was one of the most famous dynasties because it was the first unified and multinational state in the history of China, the terra-cotta warriors, and the fierce rule of the emperors. The Qin dynasty was created during the warring states period, and it started out in the Northern China. The Qin dynasty started when the ruler, Yingzheng (Also called Qin Shi Huang), came to power at the age of nine, and took over six warring states, creating the Qin. He established a capital in Xianyang, in the Shaanxi Province. Yingzheng made many good choices concerning the welfare of his people and the development of his country, but towards the end of his rule, he became a harsh, cruel ruler. He destroyed anything that could let his people think for themselves, such as books. He also heard that some scholars were talking about his arrogance, so he buried about 460 of them alive. These two events are called 'To Burn the Books and Bury the Scholars Alive'. He also forced high taxes and labor, but with those things he built the Great Wall of China, and his terra-cotta warriors to protect him in the afterlife. After Qin Shi Huang had died in 210 BC, his son, Hu Hai, took over the throne. As a child, he was very unlikely to take the throne because of his lack of manners. Hiwever, his teacher, Zhao Gao, was a conspirator and helped Hu Hai to get the position of emperor. Once he was ruler, Hu Hai killed anyone who threatened his power, including his eighteen brothers and sisters. The Qin dynasty ended by a peasant rebellion. Chen Sheng and Wu Guang were two peasants who started an uprising against the Emperor. Their cause was later taken over by Xiang Yu and Liu Bang. In 207 BC, Xiang Yu's forces defeated the Qin army, and Liu Bang invaded the capital. This was the fall of the Qin dynasty. Later in that same year, Xiang Yu and Liu Bang fought for power. Liu Bang ended up winning and created the Han Dynasty.
asian pop culture
By nicole kerrigan
Common in Asia is anime, manga (comics), and fashion. The youth culture has many things that we, in America do not have here. The concept of the pop culture is "kawaii", or "cute." Many things are made to look like sweets and candy, such as erasers. These are popular due to their colorfulness, and the creativity. Kawaii nail art is one of the biggest trends throughout Asia. Nail art is extremely elaborate, with animals, and pictures drawn on the nails.
In fashion, skirts and dresses are very popular. Again, kawaii is infused into their clothing. Many girls wear colorful clothing, sometimes with bows, vests, and intricate designs. For men, scarves, denim jackets, and denim vests are in style. The fashion is basically what we would call "hipster," but with a little more formality. The "goth" style is also very popular in Japan. Many people dye their hair unnatural colors, and wear dark Victorian-style clothing. However, in school, many wear uniforms, which for girls, is usually a white button up with a skirt and knee-high socks, and for boys is usually a blazer with slacks.
Music is heavily influenced by America's artists, but there are some twists to it. Some pop artists have a funk, edgy beat, while most artists add a cute, jumpy tune, and sing in higher pitched voices than an American artist would. This goes back to the idea of kawaii. Rock music has an alternative rock sound, being mainly guitar and drum lead. Rock music is very visual. Most rock artists wear bright colors and bright makeup. They do their hair to make it stand out, and their clothing is brightly colored. Electronic music has made its mark in Asia, just as it has around the world. It combines many genres into one electronic beat, and is the most popular music in Asia right now.
Anime is probably the most popular kind of shows in Asia. Anime is animated characters, like a cartoon. Anime combines lots of central themes into one show such as love, adventure, drama, comedy, and science fiction. Some of the most popular are Dragonball, Naruto, Code Gaess, and many others. Other than anime, prank shows are extremely well known. The Japanese are famous for their contraptions built to prank the unsuspecting public. They have built spa chairs that flip around and throw people into the snow half naked, and they have done countless other pranks such as placing giant flypaper through alleyways, then waiting for people to walk through.

architecture in asia
By: Nicole kerrigan
Asian architecture has become a very important part in modern architecture along with European and Arabian buildings. The part that stood out was the timber framework and stone carvings. A combination of both of these things plus added art created beautiful buildings that would last for years to come. Architecture was based on symmetry and balance, and that in a set of buildings the most important was the "axis." Houses were assigned and designed based on a person's family and heritage. They were typically made of wooden beams, planks, joists, and lintels. People would color-glaze their roofs and windows and add flowers on the beams to create a sense of beauty. Many houses and buildings also had courtyards. The courtyard was in the center of a building, with the most important (axis) directly in front, and less important buildings to the left and right.
Temples and palaces were the most important part of many lives because they were a place of worship and study. There are not many temples left today because some were torn down and others fell apart from not being taken care of. The most common type of temples were pagodas. Pagodas were storied buildings, and there were a rare few that was in an upturned bowl shape. The shape of pagodas changed over time through the dynasties. Pagodas started out as very simple structures mad of wood, then took a tetragonal shape. Centuries later, they took octagonal and diagonal forms. The number of stories each pagoda depended on its use and importance.
Cities were usually surrounded by high walls to keep invaders out and protect the people. Inside, wealthy people had houses made of wood and tiles, and typically they had their own walls around them. However, the peasants and merchants couldn't afford houses as nice as the wealthy. The houses of merchants and peasants were made of mud bricks and roots of various plants. These houses did not protect against much, and were only one room that held everything.
Roofs were very important in architecture. They were very symbolic, and some people believed that the shape and color of a roof would protect them against certain things. In temples, the roofs were curved because it was thought evil spirits very in a straight line, and the curved roof would keep them away. Roofs were made of glazed ceramic tiles, and they added beauty of the building itself. One of the most famous examples of architecture is the Forbidden City in Beijing. The roof tiles are colors of green, red and gold. Each ridge of the roof has a mythical creature on it, with the roof sweeping. The most complex designs are on the southeastern side of the building. However, the roof is very heavy because of all these decorations, and could one day break.
Architecture in ancient Asia has influenced architecture throughout the world. Now, many Asian countries have earthquake resistant buildings, and some still keep the style that has been in Asia since the begin
